Buying the GE Smith Telecaster on eBay

When you start buying electric guitars, the habit can become compulsive and joy lifting.  The trick, to me anyway, is to only add a new guitar to your collection that has some useful uniqueness and hopeful provenance.  I’m not interested in ever re-selling my guitars, but I am always interested in the providential find online.  Last week, for some reason, I was drawn to eBay — I haven’t bought or sold anything online there in over seven years — and I did a quick search on “GE Smith Telecaster“, because I fell in love with the sound of that chunk of wood and wires on YouTube, and I found one for sale at a great price in a hard-to-find black color.  In this promotional shot, Black isn’t even shown and, on the Fender website and in the promotional video for his Telecaster, GE Smith “hopes” one day it will be available in Black:

When you buy something as precious and delicate as a guitar online, you never know if you’ll get duped or taken for a ride.

For some reason, buying the GE Smith Telecaster on eBay felt right, looked right, and in the end, it all turned out right.  This is one beautiful guitar.

My Eric Clapton Custom Stratocaster plays better, and my Les Paul Customs look better, but my new GE Smith Telecaster — hot in my hands for only three days — is the only one that creates the real soul of sound.

Here is GE Smith talking about his signature electric and the sound he gets out of that beast are clean and twangy and, frankly, the living embodiment of what it means to live a refreshing and joyous life.

If you’re looking to buy a Telecaster, and if you love that classic, fat Tele twang, then you must find a GE Smith Telecaster and start living again.

For some reason whenever I hear “GE Smith” I always think, “…and the Saturday Night Live Band!” because of his years working with the show. I hope you have many years of great playing with your Telecaster. :)

  2. That’s the guy, Gordon! He led the SNL band for a decade. He’s also played with Bob Dylan and was with Hall and Oates for six years.
I can’t put down my GE Smith beauty. It keeps calling me over to be picked up!
